Warm & Cool

Warm and Cool Colors

The expressive nature of color is important as colors are selected and combined to create an emotional response. Bright or warm colors are more cheery whereas darker or cool colors produce feelings of sadness and negativity.

Warm and cool colors are also used to create the illusion of size. Warm colors make objects look larger and closer, whereas cool colors make them look smaller and more distant.

Warm hues are: Yellow through to Red-Violet
Cold hues are: Violet through to Yellow-Green

Shown here are some colors and different moods they create.
